Selling On Ebay Improving The Odds That Your Items Sell On Ebay

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Are you selling on ebay? A lot of people who are looking for ways to make money online are discovering how to sell on ebay since it is fairly simple to get started and it can be an easy way to begin your own home based business.

There are numerous people who sell things on ebay because they are looking for a way to support themselves or their family. If you are currently selling on ebay, how is it working out for you? Are you making the money that you would like to make.

If you answer is no, you will want to keep reading because I am going to show you several tips on how to improve the odds that your items will sell on ebay.

Some ebay buyers are very watchful of ebay scams so one of the first things that most ebay buyers will do is to check to see what the seller’s feedback looks like. Everyone who has bought from ebay a number of times, understands the significance of buying from a seller who has a high rating and a good reputation.

These buyers are aware that a seller with a high rating virtually eliminates the odds of getting scammed. Having a good feedback score will also help you to attain a good reputation but by having an about me page, you can also raise your reputation as a seller on ebay. While having an about me page is your choice, the benefits of having one are many.

An about me page is simply that, a page where you can present yourself and give buyers some background information on your ebay business or about you individually and maybe the reason that you started selling on ebay.

Once an ebay buyer has checked out the seller and knows they can trust them, they will start to look more at the product or products of the seller.

Obviously, this is going to be where you will have the best chances of making the sale. You will want to make sure that your prices are reasonable and still competitive. While you will want to be making some profit from the sale, you also want to make certain that you don’t run potential buyers off by asking for too high of a price.

Another thing you will want to do is to make sure that you have an accurate description for the items you are selling on ebay. Listing each item separately and with a good description will increase your chances of making the sale. You need to make sure your buyers know the condition that the item is in so they know exactly what to expect. You should also state whether additional materials such as batteries etc., will be required for the item.

When you provide an accurate and detailed description of your item, you are certain to increase the odds of selling your item.

An additional critical part of your listing should be accurate pictures of your item. While it may cost more to show additional pictures, buyers like to see exactly what they are getting so it would be worth the additional costs if you really want your item to sell on ebay. If you are interested in learning how to get additional pictures posted for free, you can see my article about photo sharing or using photobucket.

Make sure that you take close up pictures of your items and that you are using good lighting because if your pictures are not of good quality, you may as well not even have pictures. Low quality pictures have kept many ebay sellers from being able to sell their items. In other words, use high quality pictures in your listings.

While it is up to you to determine what forms of payment you are willing to accept, the majority of ebay sellers now use paypal as the most common form of payment. Most buyers are comfortable using paypal as well, so if you do not currently accept paypal for payment, you should certainly consider looking into paypal.

Although almost all ebay buyers will be able to use paypal, there are still going to be a few who will not and for this reason you may want to be able to accept other forms of payment also. Just be certain that you have received all payments and that they have cleared before you ship your items to the buyer.

As you keep these strategies in mind while selling on ebay, you should begin to see your sales start to increase. Think like a buyer when listing your items and ask yourself, would I purchase this item?

Government Auctions – Gain a Competitive Advantage as an eBay Seller

Selling merchandise on eBay has been recognized as one of the top ways to sell products and establish a lucrative online home based business. A few years ago it was fairly easy to make money this way, however, over the years eBay has become over populated with sellers, making it even more challenging to find products that are not saturated on eBay and inexpensive enough to make a decent profit from. When you use an online supplier, you have a disadvantage compared to other eBayer’s, because many receive volume discounted pricing on merchandise that you would have to compete against.

Here is a way you can have a competitive advantage and make much higher profit margins then long time eBayers. The government collects millions of items through many diverse sources such as bankruptcies, unpaid taxes, repossessed items, unclaimed items or government surplus that they simply want to quickly get rid of. These items are sold either live at a local US or Canada government auction or online from a government web site. Since these items don’t bare a cost to the government, they aren’t concerned about selling at high markups like a wholesaler is, so you can buy merchandise for far less then what they are worth.

Purchasing products at government auctions means you are buying goods that are not only unique but are deeply discounted as well. These auctions have a extensive range of items that are great for selling on eBay including items such as jewelry, electronics, office equipment, etc. There are also numerous new or near new items existing in sizeable quantities which means less time adding items in eBay. To give an example, at a government auction I recently attended someone bought 11 ATM machines for $45 each which they sold for $467 each and another person bought 43 digital cameras for $600 which they auctioned off on eBay for a 700 percent profit.

So if you’ve never sold an item on eBay then I would suggest going to eBay and taking 10 minutes to set-up a free eBay membership (see link below) and entering in a fake item for sale (it’s easy, follow eBay’s guidance). You can do this without physically offering the item for sale. This quick implementation will show you now painless it is to sell items on eBay.

Then go to the Government Auction Review Site below and check which government auction site(s) are the best options to locate government auctions and items listed at each (online and live auctions). Once you learn of the government auction site that will offer access to virtually unlimited merchandise for you to resale, then join that site.

All you have to do now is search for government auction sale items online and/or visit a local live government auction. Then buy items amongst the countless great deals and list them on eBay for a nice profit. Viola, eBay’s complete audience has access to your items and can now bid on them.

My congrats because you have just started what will be a very profitable online business.
