Website building is not as easy as most people try to portray it to be. Your website building choices will actually have a big impact on how your website will perform in the long run. You need to arrange your website and present your information so that it gets noticed by visitors – both humans and search engine robots.

To assist you in your website building, you need the following schemes and tools:

1. Website Building Tools – First off, you need to choose and register a website domain name. The website name should be chosen carefully and should apply to your products and services. If you are on a tight budget, you can make a web site on a free web site hosting service without registering a domain name. You can then choose and configure a web site hosting service. There are different tools you can select from. Among them are Flash Website Design Pro, A4 Flash Photo Gallery Builder, Adobe Dreamweaver and Artisteer.

3. Logo – Website building is not dependent on a logo. However, it may be of great help of you have one. A logo should represent your products and service and should be memorable without being too flashy.

4. Orchestrating your Website – Website building entails organization. Separate your website into segments that can be easily located by your visitors as well as search engine robots.

5. Navigation – Contrary to what other people think, navigation is important before you begin your website building. Website building needs a bunch of planning. Website building made with careful planning and forethought will rank good in the search engines.

How To Find A Web Designer

Monday, January 11th, 2010

A website is one of the most valuable assets a business can have. A good site is no longer a bonus for a company, its now a requirement in order to be competitive. If you haven’t gone through the process of finding a designer and working together throughout a project, chances are you’re not quite sure how to find a good designer.

While there are tons of designers out there who are capable of designing your site, not all of them are qualified or capable of doing a good job. As an un-regulated field, anyone can start a web design business, and as a result there is a very wide range of quality from one designer to the next, not to mention that some designers specialize in certain types of projects.

I know that finding a designer can be a difficult task, and so I’m writing this article to give some tips that will give you a starting point towards finding the right designer.

1. Ask Friends and Family

Because there are so many web designers out there, you may want to start be simply talking to family, friends, and people that you trust. You may find that one of them is involved in web design or that they have someone that they can highly recommend. Of course, keep in mind that just because you can find a web designer this way doesn’t mean that he or she will be right for your project, but it never hurts to stat with people you trust.

2. Check with Those in Your Network

Through your business I’m sure you have built a network of other professionals that you have done business with and gotten to know. These people are an excellent resource for finding a web designer. Other business owners may have gone through the same search and they may have someone that they highly recommend. You can also check with a local chamber of commerce to see if they have members that do web design work.

3. Take Out an Advertisement

When time is a major constraint you can pay a little bit of money to advertise your need for a designer. There are several online job boards that focus on design work, most of these will charge for job listings but the rates will vary from site to site. You could also place a classified on Craigslist for a designer in your area. Also, don’t forget about ads in your local newspaper.

4. Look at Sites that You Like

When you are online and you come across a nice website that you think is high quality or similar to a site that you would like for your business, go to the bottom of the page and see if there a link to the designer’s website. It’s pretty common for sites to include a link in the footer that shows who designed the site, so you may be able to find someone this way that you know has done some excellent work.

5. Check Out Design Galleries

There are tons of sites that exist just to showcase quality web design. These gallery sites include screenshots of sites from various designers, and many of them happen to be portfolio sites for web and graphic designers. Find some portfolios that interest you and reach out to the designers to see if they would be able to give you a price quote for your project.

Steven Snell is a designer and blogger from New Jersey, USA. One of his sites, DesignM.ag, includes a leading design and development job board where you can post your own job listings for web designers.
